Nowadays, everyone's first impression of your business is based on how your website functions and looks. The construction of this new website was fueled by lots of tears, blood and numerous cases of wines (look below).
Why did we do it? Read on!
1) We were not getting the results we wanted.
Our old website had product photos and information only. Nothing was clickable and if anything clicked, it didn’t bring you anywhere. We probably had 9 visitors the whole of last year and we had no idea why they were there in the first place. It was just useless web real estate. We needed our website to scream “WE ARE THE BEST WINE MERCHANTS”, to meet our clients’ needs and exceed their expectations.
2) The purpose of our site has changed.
In the old days, the main functions of a website were for sense of presence and for providing company and product information. That is no longer the case. We want to do more than just sell wines to our clients. We want to share with them our favorite foods and wines, wine tips and knowledge that might be of interest or useful to them. We want to showcase our past and upcoming events, and hope that they will join us for the next party. We want everyone to know who we really are.
3) Our old website did not work.
Nothing clicked. Product information and photos were all out of date. Everything had to go.
4) Did we vaguely have a web design strategy?
Nope. Zero. We are drinkers. Not designers .We had no idea what we wanted. Our strategy was easy - “As long as it works”. We researched and referenced everything on the internet and built the website slowly. Every time we got a new idea, we added it in and see if it worked. Sometimes it did. Sometimes it did not. But we were always hoping that the website would not be accidentally deleted, and everything was in alignment (yes, the alignments do move for reasons we know not why). You can laugh, but that fear was very real for us. For now, we hope that the newly redesigned website will meet our clients’ needs. But if we fall short, please tell us and we will try our best to improve.
5) Our site was not responsive.
Yup. Totally not responsive.
6) We want to incorporate better content.
Wine Exquisites is 20 years old. We have a lot of history and knowledge that we want to share. We did not do it before. We will do it now.
7) Our competitors changed their site so we did it too.
No. We decided to redesign our website FOR OUR CLIENTS (that’s you by the way); because it will bring about a better shopping experience.
8) Our third-party tools were outdated.
What third-party apps?
9) We needed a reason to bring out the champagne.
But of course!
